Students that will be entering the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh or eighth grade in Fall 2017 are able to enroll in the morning enrichment program at Project THINK. These students will be grouped according to grade level and will rotate through six classes. These well rounded course offerings are filled with hands on activities, projects, lessons, and educational presentations from visitors that will be sure to get your child ready and excited for the upcoming school year!
Curriculum is varied for each session.
First Session: Explore the world as you create and map a simulated oil tank spill off an international coast using Geographic Information System (GIS) tools. GIS is three dimensional mapping software utilized in most fields today. You will enhance your cartographic abilities as you integrate critical geography, science, and math skills to solve this 21st century environmental challenge.
Second Session: Put yourself in an international adventure as you create your own interactive stories, animations, games, music and art using Scratch, a programming language developed for kids by MIT. Using Scratch, you will learn important design and problem solving skills as you work collaboratively with others and share your digital technology projects on the web.
As a marine biologist, you will explore the ocean frontier and discover the untapped resources which will be used in the future of our world. Learn about the use of ocean plants and animals in medicine and technology. How will the ocean sustain humans around the world in the future? You will create your own ecosystem and participate in other science experiments related to the ecology of the world.
Experience the artistic works of our world neighbors and discover how art is a form of communication. Using a variety of media, including drawing and painting, create your own artful masterpieces. You will learn drawing techniques, color, value, and perspective to bring global wonders alive through art.
Learn to use your imagination to develop captivating stage presence and build confidence. Reach into the minds of the audience as you move and react, using all your senses. Learn drama techniques from around the world. Improvisation, theater games, and exercises will help you explore the hidden talents each one of you possesses.
Journey around the world in 15 days! Experience poetry and literary forms of other cultures, ultimately mastering your pen and ink skills, as through the writing process, you publish your own international booklets. Session 1 will emphasize the Eastern cultures and Session 2 will focus on the Western Hemisphere. Each session will include learning phrases and poems in languages from around the world.
Collaborate and explore as you build, create, and problem solve like future engineers in this Makerspace. Use your creativity and knowledge of math and science concepts to navigate a variety of building and thinking challenges. Your logic, reasoning skills, and imagination will be pushed to its limits as you utilize a variety of puzzles, tools, and other real-life exploratory objects.
