2023 Summer CLASSES
Recommended Classes
Project Think has made the difficult decision to postpone our in-person summer program for 2023. Realizing that many of our families are seeking engaging opportunities for children, we are endorsing three wonderful instructional offerings by our STEAM education partner, Be A Maker Club, and some of our instructors. These classes will be of the same high-quality that the instructors offer at Project Think. One will be online, and the others will be face to face in your home (art and swimming lessons). These classes will not be through Project Think, but are recommended as a courtesy to the many parents who have asked for referrals. The prices offered are a special discount for Project Think Families and their friends.

Silicon Valley companies today are not only producing software but also building hardware that makes everyday life easier. The engineers of the future need to be proficient not only in coding but also in hardware design skills. Think of the revolutionary electric cars by Tesla and the robots by Boston Dynamics or the robotic vacuum cleaner that cleans our homes.
Introduce your child to the basics of hardware development through 3d printing. Your child will learn to turn their sketch into a CAD model and use software to generate code for controlling a 3d printer. Our unique online platform gives you access to learning, technical support, and fabrication.
So, what is 3D printing? 3D printing or additive manufacturing is the making of three-dimensional solid objects from digital code. This is achieved using a process where an object is created by laying down successive layers of material until the object is created. 3D printing enables you to produce complex shapes using less material than traditional manufacturing methods.
Each week, students can work on their own designs. They will be introduced to TinkerCAD and the instructor will demonstrate how to create CAD designs. Each student can work on designs of their choice. Additional technical support sessions and video lessons for asynchronous learning will also be made available to students who want to do more.
We’ll share sample designs every step of the way and demonstrate techniques to make useful 3D shapes. We will discuss how 3D printing works, and the various types of machines that can be used to fabricate those designs. Each student will experience how a CAD model is sliced, converted to GCode, and then sent over-the-air to the 3D printer for fabrication. Students will see the printers in action via livestream video and for each print (optional) made for the student, a timelapse video will also be sent to the student.
For this class:
-
You do NOT need to create an account on TinkerCAD. Our instructor will provide you with a class code and/or link to join. This does not require you to enter any personal information.
-
A 3D printer is not required to participate in this class.
-
Competency in using a computer and basic web browsing skills are essential. Students who have difficulty navigating the internet or using the computer may need help from an adult or responsible guardian.
-
Purchase of a print of your finished CAD design is optional. Your instructor will explain how you can prepare your design to print remotely during the class and provide a link where you can upload your design and purchase a print if desired.

Classes are available for the following age groups, with a maximum of 6 students in each class:
-
10:00 am to 10:45 am - 5 to 7 years
-
11:00 am to 11:45 am - 8 to 12 years

Classes run for 4 days in the week from Monday to Thursday, except for the weeks starting 1 June and 5 July.
